Microsoft Surface Duo Review

Microsoft Surface Duo

2019 had to be the year for foldable smartphones, and though that was not exactly the case, we have now a new technology leader with Microsoft as a fairly unique group of foldable phone companies.

Last night, Team Microsoft took the wraps off the company's first dual-display system powered by Android and called it Surface Duo. Microsoft hasn't shared much about this machine yet, but the company has said it won't be ready for another year to launch.

Now we have a good idea of what foldable handsets will look like and function like Samsung's Galaxy Fold, Huawei Mate X, or Royale Flexpai but Surface Duo doesn't have any these phones.

Two different differences between it and Galaxy Fold from Samsung is that it is running Android and folding up. In reality, Microsoft is still not comfortable calling this phone, given its obviously pocketable size.

Microsoft as a PC competitor views the Duo quite differently and although the firm did not say anything, the nature of the Surface Duo tells us a lot about who will handle this machine when it is ready to ship.

Microsoft Surface Duo vs Galaxy Fold:

As a Surface Duo still is a model, Microsoft has not provided much in terms of specifications. But the Microsoft video ad reveals the standard flat screens with a hing that opens like the book is two 5.6-inch displays. No internal screen as shown on the Fold is available and also no transparent plastic-based display is possible in this case.

The two monitors can however fold back so that the Surface Duo appears sometimes a little like Huawei Mate X.

Have we seen anything like this before from a design point of view? A yes and a no is the answer. LG, for example, gives Android with its V50 and G8X phones the same dual-screen solution, however, this new Surface Duo looks a lot more sleek than LG's slap-on cover like the headset.

Stylus aid is also included in the Surface Duo that the Galaxy Fold does not have. We can finally see Samsung launch a Fold edition with S Pen support, but it takes a lot of effort because we're still familiar with its special folding screen for the first time.

The Surface Duo can operate well when two big screens are helpful for displaying and entering data with a finger or style. Galaxy Fold, though, could become more compact shape and is best suited for accessing three capable rear cameras as a camera in this smaller shape.

The Duo can play well with the second screen, which offers additional features— the manner in which the ROG Phone and ROG Phone 2 ASUS' TwinView Dock are bunched.

Although there is no practical experience with any product, the Surface Duo provides a clamshell design that is more durable than any other device. Samsung provides on the other hand, a range of cautionary steps for the Galaxy Fold which were prompted earlier this year by the failure to launch the Fold.

Since Surface Geräte was made by Microsoft with outstanding hardware for a couple of years now, it's worth seeing how Surface Duo is among the most delicate foldable smartphones.

The Surface Duo's early hand-held videos show that the two wide monitors in shutdown mode will be covered and that when the two are opened, the two are different so that less areas are concerned with the Surface Duo as it originally is. But these two 5.6 "screens are also presumably plastic, so that both the Galaxy Fold and the Surface Duo will definitely be destroyed by a fall.

The Surface Duo is significantly smaller than the tablet-sized Surface Neo of Microsoft, but it is obviously not a single hand computer. This means that, while on your journey, Microsoft doesn't want you to call the couple in your hand or go through Instagram. A bluetooth headset can always be paired for calls but the drift gets.

Microsoft must concentrate on the design of code for a suitable dual-screen experience. The phone video ad reveals that the devices are running on both screens separately, while the Samsung foldable screen functions almost well as one monitor. With the "App Continuity," Samsung's technology has been designed to launch three devices simultaneously on its large screen. Often, you can turn Fold and see main apps on a tablet in landscape mode.
